Here is something that is not linked in any way to our site but I am sick of applying those steps and search for them every time, so here is a clear and easy way you can disable the Spectre and Meltdown patches. In general it would make your PC slow (especially old models) as it does disable some features for result predicting on CPU level.
In order to disable it, you should create /modify/ a couple of registry keys. To do this:
- Open “Command Prompt” from Start menu as administrator (right-click “Run as administrator…”)
- Run following commands:
reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management” /v FeatureSettingsOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management” /v FeatureSettingsOverrideMask /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
- Restart your machine /PC/
This information is hard to obtain and know about if you are Windows user but could be found for Windows Server 2008 R2. It is quite confusing and I haven’t checked the results in PS, never did benchmarks but it fixed 3 machines already for me, so I suppose it is doing something.
As there are a lot of options and attributes for the registry keys, please check this Microsoft article in you need more information, details or troubleshooting.
Hope this helps somebody =))
